About this grant
The Union Pacific Community Ties Local Grants program provides funding to nonprofits operating in communities served by Union Pacific Railroad. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) public charities (classified under sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2)) and their programs must align with one of four cause areas: safety, workforce development, community vitality, or environmental sustainability. The funder does not support general operating costs, event sponsorships, political organizations, sports teams, fellowships, or organizations that have received three consecutive years of funding. Schools cannot be funded directly, but programs run by separate 501(c)(3) organizations within schools may qualify. Religious organizations must have a separate 501(c)(3) entity and serve the general population regardless of religious affiliation.
