Virginia Department of Education · Funder

Virginia public schools can apply for up to $5,000 per STEM+C competition team (FLL, FTC, or FRC) for the 2026-2027 academic year, with a division maximum of $10,000 for up to two teams. Applications close September 18, 2026.

About this grant

This grant funds STEM+C competition teams in Virginia public schools, including FLL Explore, FLL Challenge, FTC, and FRC. The applicant must be the school division, not the individual school or team, and awards are sent to the division finance office. A school must have a lead teacher or team coach who is a school employee, principal support, and division administrator buy-in. The application includes a 500-word narrative addressing team description, student outcomes, school-wide STEM awareness, workforce readiness with four named skills (collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking), and student impact numbers. Budgets cover staff stipends (max 10% of request), professional development, competition registration, transportation, meals, robotics kits, supplies, and instructional materials. Computers and 3D printers cannot be purchased except where specialized. Applications are reviewed in order received and due by 5:00 p.m. on September 18, 2026.
